Back9Network, the new sports lifestyle television and media network for golf fans who want to do more than follow the leaderboard, today announced that Charles Cox has been named chief financial officer and vice president, strategy and business development.
Prior to joining Back9Network, Mr. Cox was the Director, International Finance Business Development at ESPN, Inc. in its Bristol, Connecticut headquarters, working on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, channel/product launches, and other corporate projects for ESPNs international businesses. In conjunction with upper management at ESPN and its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, he helped sell Asias top sports pay television asset, ESPN Star Sports, to News Corp. In addition, he led ESPNs acquisition of Footytips, Australias top sports fantasy-tipping website, as well as helped launch ESPNs third Spanish-speaking pay television network, ESPN 3, in Latin America.
The addition of Charles Cox is another important milestone in the development of Back9Network, said James Bosworth, founder and CEO, Back9Network. We are particularly pleased to have Charles joins us from ESPN, our neighbors here in Connecticut, where he played an important role in their international growth. We are rounding out a world-class leadership team as we continue to make progress on our plans to launch our inaugural on-air programming in 2013.
Prior to ESPN, Mr. Cox worked as an investment banker at Fidus Partners in Charlotte, North Carolina, providing merger & acquisition advisory and related services to middle-market private equity firms, corporations, and private business owners. He also worked in the media and communications investment banking group of Wachovia Securities, advising corporate clients on mergers & acquisitions and debt offerings.
Im excited to join Back9Network and look forward to working with Jamie and the team, said Cox. I was attracted to Back9Network by the passion and vision of the Back9Network crew and believe we will provide a powerful, multi-channel platform that will benefit cable and satellite operators, marketers, and others who live and love the golf lifestyle.
Before entering investment banking, Mr. Cox was a corporate attorney in New York City at Proskauer, the countrys top sports and entertainment law firm, serving clients like the National Basketball Association. He started his career in Washington, D.C. at the prominent law firm, Williams & Connolly, primarily supporting the firms sports law practice with the recruiting, marketing, and free agent analysis of its professional athlete clients.
Mr. Cox earned MBA and JD degrees from the University of Virginia, and received a BA in economics and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
